Another starred review for my forthcoming book SHE WHO KNOWS: Firespitter. This one from Kirkus Reviews. ⭐️! "…the prose is sharp and immersive, the characters provide insight into family drama and healing, and the narrative seamlessly blends elements of fantasy, folklore, and speculative fiction."

Definitely not looking for YA. Plenty of that out there and I’d like to read about and center older ladies for once.

I find it strange that anyone would wear and thus represent anything that they don’t know a thing about (I even look into every logo I wear, no matter how cool their logo is)…but I guess I’m from “a different time”, 😒.

I constantly have to remind myself that a kid wearing a t-shirt with a band name or logo on it does not necessarily mean they like that band. It’s highly likely that that kid has no idea who Alice in Chains is, 🙁

This has happened to me, like, three times in a row in the last few days. I don't want these same old stories, nor do I want sexy witches or...I just want something else, but about mystical, powerful, flawed (preferably older) women that society has a problem with that's not set in the past.

I get so excited about books about witches, but I lose ALL excitement when I look at the summary and see that it's set in the past. I just am NOT interested in reading about the past or Salem or references to that one subject/time period. Sigh.

This is the cultural difference I’m talking about. For me, it’s not a choice. That leads to a very different worldview and way of addressing things. 🤷🏾♀️

True. Esp apparent to an American who’s lived in places where ‘oldness’ is not despised or feared and generations mix freely. Where spaces contain 80 year olds and 50 year olds and 25 year olds and no one doubts that all could have a good conversation.

One more thing: I wouldn’t judge Biden one bit if he decided to abandon the American people to the wolves surrounding us & just went to live the rest of his life in peace, quiet and luxury because for all his decades of effort, sooo many of you have been overly judgmental assholes to him. Ijs. 😊

NOTE: I’m not a democrat (I’m an independent who leans faaaaaar left on most issues…fuck a label, though. And I don’t move with a herd…sometimes that sucks, but it’s the way I am. I like my freedom and space) and I’m not a fan of Biden, though I respect (not agree with all!) his decades of work.

And some of you hate that he is just old because you hate older people. Period. You need to address that with yourself NOW. And some of you are weaponizing the fact that he’s older in an awful way (while ignoring that Trump is, too, just in a different way).

Note: My mother is journeying through Alzheimer’s and the jokes I’m hearing about the disease enrage me. 🖕🏾🖕🏾 I also know what it looks like. That’s not what I see with Biden. I see an old slower man, who still can and is willing (for some reason) to work, even if he has his moments.

We saw a nice dose of this in the US during the height of the pandemic when people didn’t care if the elders died. How they are useless, vapid and have no purpose, by definition. “Get out of the way, make room for me, a younger person”. Our elders! Remember?? I do.

I come from a culture (this part of me is VERY Nigerian) where “respect your elders” is pounding into your psyche. I’m glad. I watch the way people talk about older people. The way we treat getting older, the fear, the denial, the sadness, the envy, 😮💨, it’s such a problem, smh.

Americans have a real problem with older people and the concept of aging. The culture is rife with ageism. It’s going to official bite us in the ass if we don’t address it. Wow.

Neptune just heard the first firework. He ran upstairs & probably won't be down until...until the fireworks stop. I hope I can get him to eat his dinner (he's a little pig, so that is likely, just while under my bed). It's only 6pm and the sun won't set for another hour and half!

I got home around 2 AM last night and just before I went inside, I saw a great horned owl fly by, 😃!!!!! I love owls!! 😃 What a grand welcome home, 😃. Also saw a ton of nighthawks at what I call my “nighthawk tree”. I’m still smiling about it all.

What’s been said to me: “I am voting for Trump because I like his policies.” Riiiiight. 😒 Suuuuure that’s your reason. Mmmmhm. Also, if you can’t trust the guy to behave rationally and do what he says he’ll do, what’s the point? [that’s a rhetorical question].

if it's not progressive then it's a pass for me. i am tired of a certain slant that dominates most nollywood productions when it comes to women. i am long tired. it's gotten to the point where i am just not interested any more and there is only so much time i have to watch things.

I’m not a Trekkie. Also, I know there are rare gems. Girls on the Bus is one for me. That’s not my point here. My point is it’s too hard to find these shows. There are way too few.
