It's important that all these moves are transferring power to not only the least democratic branch of government, but also the least representative one

I’ve been dreading this basically all summer, trying to talk my way into it somehow not ending up this way. But the longer the term stretched without the decision coming down, the more I knew it would end up being exactly this

Instead of any of the agencies filled with professionals in their fields regulating ANYTHING, it defers these decisions to a judiciary packed with ideologues to make sweeping decisions (or, to eventually send those decisions up to the Supreme Court to make them). It’s the state rotted from within

I’ve been trying to explain this to anyone who will listen today. It’s so, so much more important than the debate (or even than a lot of the other decisions that will get more attention)

Yeah, I really refuse to ingest any of the video, even in recap form. Just absolutely not worth the damage to my mood and mental health for whatever I’ll gain out of it

I can’t stop you from watching the debate tonight. I can’t tell you that doing something else will make you feel better. But I promise that watching it will almost certainly make you feel worse.

Wild that ESPN lets him do this, given his contract, for a number of reasons

Found myself in an absurd argument on here with someone so tedious and stuck in circular logic that I legit considered they might be a bot, so I suppose this place does, in fact, have the juice

At no point have I said that, and your refusal to acknowledge the reality of our political system is, frankly, not worth anymore of my time

And you’re apparently fine with living with the consequences of that

I am upset with Democratic leadership, but I think they are more persuadable than the alternative to actually doing good things (and, more urgently, not doing catastrophic things). They suck, they should be told they suck, every day, but they’re still better than the alternative. It’s that simple.

I am not. You continue to accuse people of doing things they aren’t actually doing, so I think I’m done trying to persuade you to spend these efforts more usefully

Nobody is pretending that. What we’re saying is that choosing to not vote for him materially, in a very small way, helps his opponent get elected, which will unquestionably make things worse. It’s your prerogative if that’s what you want to do, but you should be clear-headed about the outcome

It’s not at all the only thing you can do. What do you think is more productive — holding a protest vote, or voting for the guy who sucks less, but who actually might budge toward your position on issues if you yell at him enough?

It’s only selfish if you think you’re doing the “right” thing by making yourself feel better about your choice while actively increasing the chances of making the world a worse place for yourself and people you care about

I feel like it happens a lot! Especially for something that doesn’t seem to get any real governmental scrutiny!

I don’t begrudge anyone going to Shake Shack for lunch. I love me a good burger. I’m just saying, there’s no clearer sign that you have zero plan to get any more work done the rest of the day
