I think in various places and in various aspects of life we are developing an iPhone/Android dependency, much like many places have a car dependency.

(And that is bad because power imbalances and singular dependencies are generally bad)

I think the extra mile this article goes is especially important as modern fascist and anti-intellectual movements can dumbfound a lot of people, especially older generations, who assume that people who are motivated for a certain position are always simply acting like reasonable people would.

I've avoided Signal for a long time because it was very barebones, you can still feel it a bit, but it's much more fleshed out. I like that they seem to recognise the need for applications and systems that normal people actually want to use instead of "take a look at our protocol and frontends! 🤓".

well in Telegram's case it's a bit more unique - they tried to get into crypto shit with a big ICO and the SEC made them stop, causing them to lose an incredible amount of money and they are now way up to their necks in debt from Russian lenders as a result 😇
