Try telling anyone under like 35 that previously, a normal internet experience was actively going to a website and then deliberately choosing to click on one of the human curated articles that interested you. We've passively created this fire hose of dogshit for ourselves. There are other ways!

I'm probably not the only person to notice how dipshit Tories are escaping here to ruin American institutions now that they've completely shit the bed in their own country.

I think Kilgore Trout or someone said that "LOL nothing matters" is quite likely a battlefield-clearing weapon.

The Times in particular has been a textbook case of Obeying in Advance. They are run by cretins and cowards.

Someone else noted that not enough people are gaming out the downticket scenarios if Biden drops out - you're going to get furious "Dems in Disarray" coverage for WEEKS. If you think controlling at least one branch of the federal government is important, gotta consider that.

I don't think normie liberals (at least until very recently) appreciate that the NY Times management are basically just inbred aristocratic morons at a Habsburgian level. Like, they somehow think they can goose engagement without aiding a political faction that wants to kill journalists.

I'm always wary of becoming an Unskewed Polls guy, but I still have trouble seeing Biden lose PA, MI, and WI. AZ is a decent bet to hold. NC is a possible flip because the GOP nominated a maniac for governor. I guess my default mode is - how many people like Trump *more* now than 4 years ago?

The quote from Deadwood remains a banger: “Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you've got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.”

In honor of Paul Musgrave, I second his excellent suggestion to have Kamala appear on Hot Ones. Not sure I want Biden himself trying Da Bomb.

A lot of our problems stem from the Senate over-representing the former (and neo) Confederacy. Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina getting 8 Senators is just a fucking problem and that's before you get to the bullshit empty square states out west.

The NY Times highlighting these nailbiter polls is intended to induce anxiety in their liberal readers the same way 'migrant crisis' chyrons on Fox are intended to agitate their audience of elderly chuds.

I am old but it used to be fun to hang out on blogs with interesting, congenial comment sections, like a cool dive bar. Then blogs died and all were had were shit replacements like Twitter and now BlueSky. The internet just kind of sucks now. It's all bad.

It's absolutely a deliberate editorial choice by Dash Sulzberger, who has soiled diapers because Biden won't deign to sit down for an interview with the paper who keeps inferring he's senile.

People don't appreciate that Trump's first term mostly "worked" on a day to day basis because career civil servants could keep the plates spinning well enough. Replace those experienced people with random chuds from Liberty U. and Hillsdale and the wheels will noticeably come off much faster.

It's genuinely depressing how social media infrastructure has trained grown adults into thinking they need to immediately. chime in on everything. Oldsters especially should remember when you only checked the news once or twice a day and how it was far healthier mentally. TLDR - It's good to STFU!

It gets boring to constantly say "This is largely Rupert Murdoch's fault" but it doesn't make it less true. We even have control groups in the Anglo-sphere - look at the psychotic info environment of the US and UK compared to Canada or New Zealand. We have industrial scale information pollution.

Most of the uniquely shitty parts about America are based in the Senate and it's over-representation of the former Confederacy. Short of abolishing the Senate (in favor) or merging the Dakotas, Carolinas, Wyoming into Colorado, and Alabama/Mississippi, that's always going to be the case.

The Hunter story would also refute Trump's charge about the politicization of justice, etc. Even a dumbass swing voter can understand something like "If Biden is supposedly so corrupt, why is his own DOJ prosecuting his son?"

That aspect of First Blood really does seem to come out of the anti-authoritarian/establishment ethos of lots of 1970's films, which makes sense since the source material was written in 1972. Copaganda didn't really take off until the mid-80s.

If you're 10-15 years into your working life and blaming 'late stage capitalism' for various personal problems when unemployment is at a 50 year low, then perhaps consider how much is a you problem vs. a systemic problem. We're all fuck-ups about some things but at least try to diagnose accurately.

Reading about that obnoxious cretin in Seattle who intentionally modified his car to be so screamingly loud it woke up his neighbors.

My immediate thought was "I would start a GoFundMe for the first person to throw a cinder block through this chud's windshield."

Those 10,000 morons are precisely the people that will make or break a critical Electoral College swing state so it's actually massively important to flick the switch in their pea brains that makes them go "Hey, this Trump guy fucking sucks huh?"

I realize being a pundit is generally a worthless vocation, but even the bad ones usually try to incorporate some concrete facts and data. The especially worthless ones (thinking McArdle and Friedersdorf) deal in nothing but hand-waving abstractions and thought experiments. Like, why even bother?

It's genuinely pathetic how so many journalists and public intellectuals used an inherently straightjacketed, thought-terminating platform like Twitter to begin with. It's just an objectively stupid format to discuss anything that somehow accidentally became popular.
