Endless summer with temperatures in the nineties extending as far as we can see & little rain in that future. Happy to only be tending a small patch that can be watered. Have learned to leave the dying blooms and seed pods on our perennials. Birds appreciate it. We will break fifty tomatoes today.

Did some math on our new to us 2023 Honda CRV-Hybrid. We have driven it 568 miles since we got it on June 1. We have used 15 gallons of gas for an average mileage of 37.8 MPG. Very pleased with the car, love the lane change warning system. Gas savings of 8 gallons over driving my Acura MDX.

Beautiful things in sky that help your mind wander until the heat reminds you that this is a hot summer. Even still hot at 8PM. Picked enough tomatoes to get us to 47 this year. That's actually pretty good because except for two tomatoes, all are from 5 of 6 plants. Nearly half way to goal of 100.

I had a fried baloney & cheese sandwich accompanied by tomatoes. In truth it was a tomato sandwich with token baloney and cheese. Keto sandwich thins have little bread flavor so you get a full dose of tomato deliciousness. A Cherokee Purple came up in the rotation. They're the best #food #tomatoes

Gift article, I think the earth is cooking. Anyone who doubts that humans have contributed to the earth's warming has mush for brains. The east coast air is unusually humid and those of us in NC are no strangers to humidity. When we were kids we survived without air conditioning. wapo.st/4cxEDiL

We finally got some rain, It rained where they said it would rain. We got something over an inch of rain in the gauge in the two plus hour storm. The rain we got this afternoon was more than the 0.77 inches we got in the whole month of June. Goose decided it was a rest day.

Hot day yesterday, we fell back on our Southern upbringing for dinner-leftover white-half-runner beans, a bite of potato, cornbread and a Boxcar Willie tomato. They're unique because all the seeds fall out and they end up looking like a pepper. We have not decide about Boxcar Willie as a regular yet

Pretty skies tonight, but still oppressive outside and still not a drop of rain. Picked our first Cherokee Purple of the year that weighed over 1 lb. It was eighteen ounces. I also picked our first two Early Girl tomatoes. We are up to a couple dozen tomatoes, with the main crop yet to hit.

I usually put too much on & it dribbles down into the grill. I guess I over compensated, but I was multi-tasking cooking the French fries inside and the burgers outside with what looked like a storm threatening. I am the cheese lover in the family, the rest thought that is the way it should be.

My wife made this "double chocolate" banana bread as our 4th of July dessert. I am pretty sure the only contact a banana had with this was to be dragged through the batter before being discarded.

Our family has a long tradition of grilling out & I have long been the person who does the grilling. We had hand cut, homemade French fries. I double fried them so they would be crisp when we ate them. The plate of tomatoes has Boxcar Willie tomatoes on the left and Cherokee Purple on the right.

We have a new garden pet, a baby rabbit. Apparently he/she has a taste for marigolds and the two plants in the front show definite signs of nibbling. We'll see if we can live and let live. The bunny should have been here last year. We had marigolds that went nuts. They could have used pruning.

The Southern Feast made it to the table. White-half-runner beans and corn, new potatoes - cooked on top of the beans, a beautiful pone of cornbread, our tomatoes, and my version of Ina Garten's Turkey Meatloaf. The good news is we cooked enough for at least a couple more meals.
