I think this is true, too. Ex-heads of state often see rising popularity long after leaving office, but their policies do not last and their sins fade with time. US jurisprudence generally *lasts a long time* and Roberts will be remembered as the architect of that pain for a generation or two.

I am at a café in Germany with a big TV outside having a beer with my son (he’s 10 and having orangina), and we are watching Germany play Spain in the Euro ‘24 tournament. This is borderline unbeatable (as long as Germany wins).

While the next AI winter is coming, the current hype cycle could potentially last a couple more years yet. It is clear that investors do not understand gen AI, that a lot of people who should know better are vastly overselling its capabilities (or wishful thinking), and that FOMO is *sky high*.

I am only a lowly comp sci PhD student with a cog sci background (masters), but to me this question is bordering on nonsensical. Do human brains have some feature that is LLM-like? Sure, maybe, I don’t know. But at best it was maybe bolted on as an aftermarket part (analogy); not the brain itself.

Why? I had a professor in college who went to bed at 8pm and got up at 3am. When I was a teenager, I worked overnight and slept from about 7am to 2pm. What difference does it make?

We are on our second all-electric. The first lasted about 10 years. I probably need to get a new (used) car within the next year to replace my 11+ year old ICE vehicle, and I am having a real hard time thinking I’ll get an EV to replace it. I still might, but I don’t really *want* to.

Not that it matters, but from a Euro view, we don’t really care that Biden wins. He’s been fine for us, but w/e. We care that he beats Trump, b/c that maintains relative stability for another 4 years. And Trump probably cannot manage a 2028 run, so we are less in danger whomever the 2028 noms are.

I live in rural 🇸🇪 and have lived in small town 🇩🇪. There are pickups everywhere, especially in rural Sweden, but also in Germany: large Dodge Rams are common. Sidewalks and bike lanes are rare in rural Sweden. Bus service is good most of the day. Our internet service is great in 🇸🇪. Very little trash.

For English you plural, I prefer the Pittsburgh yinz. I don’t particularly care for y’all and it saves a character. It’s interesting that German and Swedish have this plural you but English gave it up. I think French still has it as well, non ?

My research methods prof basically said, once you know research methods to the level required to earn a PhD at any reputable school, then there would never be a need to earn another PhD, and doing so suggests something went wrong. Def doesn’t include other Dr fields like law or medicine.

Like, I was at a conference recently. There was an informal panel/debate between 3 experts on cognition/AI, and it was super entertaining! They each had interesting, differing perspectives. But it also was largely pointless except for the entertainment value.
