We didn’t get the kind of dystopia. we expected. No treanchcoated heroes; just a slow trickle of indignities that overwhelm. Sometimes I wonder if that’s why we’re not in the streets en masse, in smoky basements planning takeovers, or skulking through alleys in high collars with big plans.

The boiling frog metaphor is overdone and also apparently not true. Frogs are smarter than people sometimes it would seem. I've been pondering writing about how Trump has sort of become a collective Missing Stair. "Oh, that's just how he is. He doesn't mean anything by it really."
