When the pretending stops
You learn you're nothing at all
Except the white heat #explosion
Of a lifetime of convenient lies
Real truth, once exposed
Starts as dull pain deep
Inside the guts and colon
Spiking straight to the brain
Unquenchable
Horror
Fear
And sadness

I'm reading a book about Billie Holiday. July 4 is the perfect day to watch her sing Strange Fruit, the powerful and painful musical portrayal of lynchings that the government punished her for singing. But Billie never stopped.

Two episodes into The Bear season 3, I'd say it is off to an uneven start. But I did enjoy hearing Eddie Vedder's version of the English Beat's Save It For Later. I was unaware of his version.

~Aftermath~
The storm is the fury
After the storm is the sadness
For everything lost
But I survive in the aftermath
Walking this shore
From eggshell to eggshell
Cautiously moving forward
Away from one horizon
And toward another

As an originalist, I believe the second amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects from infringement only the right to bear arms that existed in 1787. Like a musket. The amendment is based on the need for a well-regulated militia, so there should be many regulations too.

Today's contestant in the "just-add-hot-water sweepstakes" is this spicy beef ramen by Mike's Mighty Good. No summer armpit flavor today. This was pretty good. Not super beefy but the broth was flavorful and had a bit of heat. Just a bit of aftertaste. Overall very acceptable!

I decided to buy a bunch of just-add-hot-water meals I could have for lunch at work. This was the first I tried. It is Creamy "Chicken" ramen, all plant based. But it tastes like summer armpits. Are armpits vegan? Anyway, this was nasty and inedible. I rate this "total fail."

I read Good Material by Dolly Alderton. At first I thought it was just a fluffy novel. But ultimately it was a brilliant examination and dissection of a modern break-up. It has heart and humour, and it is very British. Recommended.

I read Day, a novel by Michael Cunningham. It examines of a group of related characters on April 5, 2019, 2020 & 2021. So yes it's a pandemic novel but not really about the pandemic. It's about the characters' struggles with the past and the future. The reason to read this is the gorgeous writing.
