Ah yup. Tropical fruit is not a big fan of the frost. The varieties I have do like a cold period to trigger the flowering - and by cold I mean < 20c and not frozen. Thinking about some of your winters, frankly it's a minor miracle you have one alive and willing to flower.

Terrible year this year for fruit set in AU. We didn't see rain for the better part of 6 months. But I got a few handfuls of tiny fruit 2 weeks ago.

Feijoa like this one in my experience need consistent water (not too much) during the dry months to flower, flowing after 2-3 years. A reasonable humidity is required for them to set fruit provided you have pollinators. True Guava are a bit different in their requirements - more like a tree.

Depends if its in a bank or into the ground. Mole crickets, spider wasps, lizards, rodents or even marsupials digging for eats = lots of things that could do that. Bee Eaters in my experience prefer river banks and hard packed sand not loose white sand or direct into the ground.
