People treat the Turing Test like an ironclad way of seeing if a machine is intelligent. Except that the Turing Test is total nonsense!

What I love about the Voight-Kampff test is how it was clearly created by people from this one really specific culture and is completely rooted in their cultural beliefs and humans from other backgrounds would obviously not pass, and yet they're using it to evaluate all people everywhere.

Except it isn’t. Some of us did research this a long time back, and “test” does not mean pass/fail. It’s a protocol for assessing something. It’s perfectly reasonable to consider it as a way to evaluate behaviour *as a starting point for discussion*. That’s not nonsense.

Passing the Turing test is indeed not evidence, but also do these things really even pass?
