People point to the Civil Rights Era as a time where protest achieved things but protest was only one page of a giant playbook that centered on organizing, building power, and making elected politicians bend to their will. The protests are overemphasized historically because they made good pictures.

People forget large majorities of Americans hated MLK & thought the Kent State kids had it coming. 2020 was the FIRST time EVER that a majority supported protesters. That's why the backlash from the cops has been so intense. They'd never gotten so much pushback before.
