The "command pattern" helped me a lot in the past, but nowadays I just let the systems stop propagating the keys further down (so basically input always goes to a single thing). Makes bugs really obvious and stops any side effects, usually.

It is a difficult problem though! Because it depends on so much other things, how you structure your software design, how you manage states and how all of the input reacts to that, etc.

I think the barrier to entry for people to download _anything_ on mobile is so low, that even a small price for non-GAAS game is suddenly a gigantic one. I think it's something that was taught to people, not just through games but the entire mobile / web ecosystem.
