The ai-generated alt text I've seen on bluesky has been really bad. Like, a cartoon of a man smiling as a chicken cusses at him gets described as a man cursing because a chicken pecked him.

Have definitely seem some testing of that in different places, though with it, some concerns about if that makes it worse, because humans stop reviewing it, or adding more useful color.
