I think the difference should be split. Let Harris focus on running rather than getting up to speed on being president. Case would be recognizing that voters have legit concerns about next 4 years, not right now. VP and cabinet could forcefully vouch for that.

I think he can credibly say he's come to see that four more years is too much, and that it's important he remain in office rather than have the Vice Presidency become vacant.
