Either the Democrats will run Biden, or he'll say he can't continue the campaign and Democrats will run Harris. Either is newsworthy, but neither is nearly as radical as running a pro-insurrection convicted felon with legal immunity he's eager to use.

This is what these MAGA motherfuckers are trying to take away from you, from your *kids*. And God damn them for it.

I'm in a hipster cafe (okay it's a Peets) overhearing these two young women in table next to me. "She *just* came out as bisexual. That means I have an infinitely greater chance with her. Because the difference between a 0 and a 1 is infinite." The kids are alright.

Plus she's a Black woman. I think it's easy to underestimate how much of a difference that might make to rightwing white men who are being revved by Trump and MAGA echo chambers into a frenzy about how their country has been taken from them and given to Blacks and migrants.

I think the "successful" part is definitely key. That's 1 - 2%. An attempt on Harris if she were POTUS is maybe 5%.

It's deeply discomfiting to countenance this, but we are already over some tipping points.

I disagree about the likelihood of assassination! We have already entered the territory of political violence with the Jan 6 insurrection and the MAGA Court's *endorsement* of that insurrection by dint of bestowing immunity on Trump. The *Heritage Foundation* is now threatening violence.

Most progressives are actual Democrats. I'm not talking about online leftists who were only activated by Bernie Sanders. And the Never-Trumpers are pretty consistent in their support for any Democrat. They've been incredibly supportive of Biden. Talking about the whole Bulwark scene.

There must be. I know there are text-banking opportunities. That's what all those annoying text messages from strange numbers you immediately delete are. I worry that phone-banking will work less well as we're trained ourselves against strange phone calls. But we should do every method possible!

Really agnostic on all this. Not in a place to say. Just convinced Biden isn't best placed to run.

Knocking on doors is the best, but that's pretty useless for people who live in solid blue states, unless we're able and willing to leave the state for such campaigns. But our financial contributions, especially this early in the campaign, help to open and staff campaign offices.

Yeah, off the charts misogynoir is on the horizon. Coverage will shift. But while the New York Times and WaPo will spread poison, progressive and Never-Trump outlets will go into strong support mode.

I think you make a (understandable, forgivable!) mistake by assuming the folks here are not "getting to work". I've seen a number of posts about postcard and letter-writing campaigns, as well as calling our representatives about supporting court reform and impeaching the MAGA justices.

We are also all ride or die for Dems up and down ballot, precisely because we're very aware of the dictatorial threat of Project 2025 and MAGA Immunity.

They'll go after Harris hard. And we will see levels of misogynoir none of us will be prepared for. But she can do it. We can do it.

If he is to stay in office, it's worth articulating that he's doing so specifically in order to avoid having a MAGAist second in line for POTUS. Make it part of the campaign. MAGA cannot be trusted with power.

Right? And if you just look at the prequels in outline, it is a solid and insightful tale of republican decline.

what left and the right both understand is that we are approaching a moment of constitutional rupture. what the right understands and the left does not is that extraconstitutional violence is not some magic "i win" button. rather the rupture will proceed through the forms and orders of american law.

as liberals it's time we woke the fuck up. it is not certain but it is certainly possible that we are approaching a moment of constitutional rupture. it's time we began to articulate our plans for resisting that rupture and restoring America to what it was meant to be

Both. If we're nervous about him running a campaign that implies too much about our confidence generally. Optics won't allow the one without the other.

I am a left liberal--even a liberal socialist on some conceptions!--and I think the Prequel Trilogy is a great and prescient epic with some poor execution. I will vote for every Democrat I see on my ballot and then some.

Yeah I think that's right. Harris taking over will put the issue to rest. And she can begin aggressively prosecuting the case against the felon Trump and his MAGA Court.

I started out thinking Biden had to stay in the race. Over the last week I've been persuaded the best path forward (there no *great* paths) for saving our democracy is for Biden to step down and for Kamala Harris to take over. This should be soon. Harris will carry forward the #BidenBoom.

To hell with the New York Times, but I don't think these concerns are manufactured. Progressive spaces like TNR and Zeteo expressed immediate concern about Biden after the debate. But so did Never-Trump allies. The move to seriously grapple with stepping down is broad and organic.

If you can't inquire into the motive of the uses of presidential powers, you're going to have a mighty difficult time establishing "corruptly" beyond a reasonable doubt (Roberts' weaselly footnote about the public record notwithstanding).

how do you rebut presumption of immunity? nobody knows. but you can't consider the president's motive in rebutting it or the fact that murder is against the law. doesn't matter if president says to his advisors "I would like to kill rival because I hate them." inadmissible

The Ford pardon of Nixon would have been totally unnecessary. A million other actions and arguments in American history assume presidents aren't immune. It's a totally new idea, nowhere in text or American tradition. Arguably the least originalist major SCOTUS decision in American history.

under the opinion in trump v. united states there was no need for john yoo to come up with an elaborate justification for torture. george w. bush could have ordered an interrogator to crush the testicles of a child, no questions asked.

Ought to pound this every hour, every day right alongside Dobbs. Biden's age is nothing compared to the lawless Supreme Court trying to make criminals of pregnant women while offering a rapist free rein. Any Democratic commentator who thinks otherwise needs to hit the showers.
