In their minds, they are doing what Trump would if he could. Trump himself, as he usually does in these situations, has backed off on retribution rhetoric. Robinson is just saying to Trump and MAGA world, "Trump can't say this because he has to remain presidential (cough) so we have to step up."

Yes, but history is easy to deny. Everyone thinks they are too sophisticated to make those mistakes again. That's how they laugh off the Hitler and Mussolini comparisons. I bet their masterminds cringe whenever they see some MAGA make an explicit reference to them. Best to make it all look new.

Predicting the future is notoriously hard. I just don't see a path to victory in Biden's current trajectory. Injecting chaos by replacing him on the ticket is the only thing that gives at least a chance of success. The race is anti-Trump. Just give the anti-Trump voters a reasonable alternative.

I always took these "editorial board" editorials as just a way of saying a bunch of us got together and wrote this thing that, more or less, represents our collective opinion. They signed it "editorial board" to give it added clout and to prevent anyone saying, "Well, X would say that."

People who don't follow politics closely are often taken in by the "both sides" view that it is all partisan bickering. It's just the polarization and, like weather, it's particularly bad this year. If you tell them one side is driving it, well, you would say that, wouldn't you?

There's no way a modern consumer has the information necessary for market pressure to come into play. With this titanium issue, the consumers are huge companies with a lot of resources. It took them quite a while to notice the problem. Self-regulation is even close to good enough.

This needs to be promoted and, assuming I understand its capabilities, partners need to be developed who can provide services for filtering, moderation, truth-verification, etc. that can be added with a good user interface. Seems like MSM companies, Wikimedia, and others should be in this business.

Trump follows a simple set of rules: 1) Promise anything that gets Trump votes. 2) Do anything that makes Trump money. The very rich understand these rules and like the fact they give less money to the non-rich and more to them.

I think Bluesky has the right idea on content moderation: let the user choose one or more moderation services and let these moderation services compete with each other based on features, price, etc. I'm looking forward to their rollout.
