He will have a mandate post election, unfortunately that mandate will be not to join the Single Market, not to re-establish Freedom of Movement and not to make ant overtures towards rejoining. His hands will be tied and he will be a hostage to fortune.

IMO he will have the chance to convince the anti immigration voters, those that might have gone Reform this time - or even Tory as Labour knows its never too late to lose an election - and hopefully push the far-right out. He has a mandate to work with the EU, rather than anti EU Tory rhetoric.
