The fact that Israeli law prohibits citizenship to refugees from the 1948 Nakba clearly shows how critical the expulsion of Palestinians was to the Zionists. They acknowledged that there was no way for them to establish numerical superiority without the permanent "transfer" of Palestinians.

In fact the Zionist leaders always made it clear that their goal was to settle all of historic Palestine. And it wasn't just the Revisionists: Ben Gurion in 1937 wrote of his determination to displace Arabs from even the Negev and what is today Jordan.
