Consider this your reminder to watch Scavengers Reign on Netflix and juice the fuck outta its numbers and convince whoever needs convincing that there’s a place for amazing, adult-audience animation in the world. Thank u.

It's precisely because I'm technical that I get frustrated with poor UX, lazy onboarding, etc. I know it's a choice, whereas non-technical people are inclined to assume that it's just the way things are.

I get the point, and I do think there's room for appealing to people who are put off by radicalism, while also energizing the people who inherently reject the status quo because they can see how rotten it is. Both groups exist, and you can gently nudge the former while firing up the latter.

I take it as a given that most people aren't going to support significant change, since many people are doing fine as it is, and, even if they aren't, change is scary. So there has to be room for various approaches to appeal to different groups, all pushing in the same general direction.

Right, but a large cohort of Americans won't explicitly support anything significantly left of center anyway. You need to work the margins.
I think it's very similar to how the normalization of Zionism in the Jewish diaspora is currently being eroded, after decades of unquestioning support.

Plus, don't underestimate the appeal of these actions to the more libertarian folks who actually value freedom, and who are often better allies than easily offended centrists. Like the classic Bill Hicks routine:

Yes, as a blanket statement it's overly broad. But if people are so easily swayed by symbolic protest I can't see them as being in it for the long haul.

It's about undercutting the normalization of uncritical patriotism. It's been going on for decades, and it does have a positive effect, just not on the people that you are talking about. To me it's the same as Dems always triangulating to the "center", I don't see it as a winning strategy.

Actions like this oppose the normalization of uncritical support of the government. Burning a flag gives permission to others to raise their voices in whatever ways they choose.
And: people who get offended at symbolic actions will never be reliable allies in any case.

As the world's most destructive invasive species it is wrong for us to make other animals pay for our destruction of their habitat and our warming of the planet. All we do is take other lives, whether by chainsaw or rifle.

I think a lot of people would have been happy if he just stopped helping Israel conduct its campaign of terror, instead of sending ever more bombs and questioning how many dead children actually lay under the rubble. That would have been nice.

"Nearly nine months into a war that Israel did not plan for, its army is short of spare parts, munitions, motivation and even troops, the officials said."
But but but I thought Biden has no influence over Israel because they make their own munitions and can create foreign exchange out of thin air.

Makes my skin crawl that these people have to spend the twilight of their lives being denied justice by people who weren’t even alive when they were brutalized and that what were supposed to be the best years of their lives was stained by an overt rejection of justice.

I'd say the Reb needs a refresher course on logic, although this sort of tautology is about as deep as hasbara ever goes.

This is what the Zionist army did during the 1948 Nakba too. Their actions in towns like Lydda would have seemed familiar to the Einsatzgruppen:

At first I assumed "vaguaries" was a Briticism I hadn't seen before, but it appears to just be a typo. Goes to show you though, they can get away with throwing random "u"s into just about any word.

His recent writeup of my favorite neighborhood club The Beach captured the time and the bands that made Austin so special.

It's fascinating that people can understand how arbitrary the notion of a "people" is and still subscribe to the idea, and want to base nations on it.
Take the matrilineal idea: first off, why the mother? Then: 1/2, 1/4, 1/16th?
And: converts--doesn't this just put the lie to the entire concept?

You're just not getting it, or accepting it. Defining race by genes is just as artificial as defining it by skin color, or ethnic identity. It's just a signifier.
So in the context of Israel, Jews are a race and they are privileged de jure and de facto. Hence the racism.

It looks like Carriacou was devastated by Beryl. The northern Grenadines fared much better, but damage is being reported throughout the chain. As usual the poor bear the brunt, both locally and globally.

Wonderful. Among many other spontaneous utterances, I've whispered a grateful "thank you" to a butterfly that landed on my leg during a blissful reverie by a creek, and to a turkey buzzard that glided noiselessly just above my head at the peak of a hill.
