Adventure Time went WAY too far with trying to be dark and serious, introducing all this depressing lore that clashed with the tone of the world. I'm just sitting there like "can we go back to the goofy adventures of a boy and his dog please?"

1. is cartoons going against the initial premise to become more serious and serialized, and a lot more boring. 2. is aging western anime fans who haven't actually watched Sailor Moon in a very long time. 3. is just wasting time when you've only got like three seasons, a normal show length.

When The Owl House was told that it's time to stop, it instead started waffling and wasting time and stretching what could have been single episodes into multiple. Why are they always doing this? You've got no one to blame but yourself at that point.

I'm of the opinion that most cartoons don't actually need to be longer than 3 or 4 seasons. Situations like Pokemon and One Piece are actually rare, you're not going to be given infinite time and infinite scope and infinite characters.

3) The third is that it gets to a point where it's time to pack this shit in. I can respect Gravity Falls for knowing when to stop, a show about mysteries needs to actually resolve those mysteries. And Amphibia had three seasons and wrapped itself up concisely, that's good, that should be the norm.

If you want my opinion, just portray things honestly and directly. Have gay people be in the show without having to wait for the final episode. Don't have colonialism be an allegory in order to placate white fragility. And don't try to make totalitarian dictators sad and sympathetic, etc. etc.

People remember Sophie's city from Howl's Moving Castle, but they'll forget that it burns. People remember the surface-level visuals from Utena, but it's about how oppressive systems can't be weaponized for good.

2) The second was that, most people have a bad memory when it comes to the things they liked as children. The point being, good stories are about things, they can't all just be comfort food.

That's the core problem with a lot of these cartoons, they'll start lighthearted, episodic and goofy, but will quickly pivot into being the complete opposite and shit the bed. It's serious cartoon time.

But the show jumped the shark with Toffee in my opinion, because he's bland and boring and we didn't know anything about him, and he sucked the joy out of the show.

1) The first was that, yes, some of them actually started out pretty good. When all Star Vs. cared about was being about a wacky space princess, that was fine. I have nothing against the idea of Sailor Moon as told by Dav Pilkey.

The reason I want to bring this up is because there seems to be a lot of confusion about, like, a million shows getting canceled, blaming it solely on corporate greed, but I want to talk about the shows themselves. Maybe there's a reason they weren't making any money?
