I'm beginning to think it was the Greater Will's decision to remove Death from the circle of Life, that Goldmask was referring to the Greater Will when he called the gods "fickle." His faith "wavered" when considering Radagon, who I consider to be akin to St. Trina in origin.

The fact that Thorn Sorceries are directly linked to another class of Sorcery in the DLC is intriguing, it doesn't necessarily clear this up but there is a way in which it could. It would depend on what happened to the summit of Enir-Elim, why it is now covered in ash.

After her eyes were crushed they were replaced with the Soreseals to see what the Greater Will wished to show her. I don't think she was happy with what she saw, but her position was compromised. She was chosen, and could only act as such. This must be the birth of her Grand Design.

No spoilers in this post, but the narrative choices of the DLC are quite a lot more powerful than the base game btw; I'm impressed by how few bosses I've encountered for how much story progress I've made, and not for lack of trying. Not much else I can say but speculation is available everywhere.
