You mean the jobs Republicans are inexorably cutting and outsourcing to private companies? The value of public investment in infrastructure and community service cannot only be measured in $$. But not to worry. Cons will just label it all as socialist, and that will be the end of it.

Sorry for my glibness. 1. Many of my former students earn $20-30/hr doing trail-construction, roadwork, and ditch-digging. Why destroy those jobs? 2. Most of my students have heavy family obligations -- they *can't* take two years off to do service for low wages because people will die.
