There's a reason the right have avoided instituting the draft since Vietnam, even during the height of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. An army that actually pulls from a representative cross-section of America is a lot of trained and disciplined people getting harder to control.

even sans draft the Army (capital A) is fairly representative. Arguably more so than most corporations in this country.

Historically, in many countries, "the army filling up with regular enlisted people getting fed up with the shit of people above them" (either officers or politicians) is the #1 ingredient in revolutions I've heard it suggested that this is ultimately why Nixon wanted to pump the brakes on 'Nam
