Just to add since I've been knee-deep in this lately: this is also partially why we retained Keynesian economics, as a compromise & pacification of labor, both in the US & UK. Those post-war years of social safety nets & regulation weren't some elite's largesse, but calculated survival.

Incidentally, Bara’s lost career is a prime example of why trashing, well, trash is so bad. The vamp fad was extremely brief, less than five years. Vamps were incredibly uncool for years and vamp films were an embarrassment that didn’t deserve serious preservation efforts.

That's in S4 and it's about Desmond and Penny, who really should be considered the heroes of the show. S4 saw an uptick in quality in the writing IMHO (this was around the time they secured a fixed timeline for the show to end and it clearly renewed their purpose)

Yeah. I really don't want to sound like a CinemaSins Ding guy, I can roll with it to an extent, but the degree to which characters on that show often acted like either complete oblivious buffoons or had their motivations newly assigned by a random wheel spin every season dragged it down a lot

There's a reason the right have avoided instituting the draft since Vietnam, even during the height of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. An army that actually pulls from a representative cross-section of America is a lot of trained and disciplined people getting harder to control.
