In an old clay pit on the edge of Nottingham (Wilford) is an amazing nature reserve - a bit too late in the season but there were still4 types of orchid; bee, Twayblade , common spotted & southern marsh. Terrible photos because of very bright light (the sun! We’re unused to it here) #wildflowerhour

They refer to themselves. We all see books we do not want to read. I will probably never read accountancy manuals, although they still need to be written (and read). Yours are not on the ‘never’ list in this household! Quite the reverse.

Fascinating #earlymodern #hextag find: an illustrated 17c witchcraft account with numbered drawings of all the protagonists. Here is one of the witches and her familiar.

Haven't come across this before! Does anyone know if any others?

Same sort of idea I think - human perfection is not possible.

The correct response is that, as with medieval builders, a flaw has to be built into the fabric (consciously or unconsciously) in recognition that only God is perfect. 😊

Acclimatising to a research trip to the Saintonge with a splendid walk along the Gironde. Nightingales, Cetti & Reed warblers, lots of orchids. But it is very wet, the drained Gironde marshes have partly returned to wetland. Tomorrow, back to the 16th century in Angouleme.

In terms of nostalgia, I did an early IT and stats course with Richard Smith at All Souls in 1984-5. Loved it! Liked using SPSS a lot less….

I have always loved creating databases, but the biggest mistake I made when starting to use MS (yes I’m that old) was to use Access rather than the more flexible Excel. I did a lot of data importing to draw graphs….

We get them in Leics (lowland central England) now as well - not many, but their distinctive call is heard over my garden from time to time. I always think of them as birds of the Norse gods - Woden’s pets, Huginn and Muninn, off on a supernatural mission….

Great comments. Merlin also does not always pick up distant calls we can hear with our ears, or it may just be the phone. There are sometimes curious IDs that are unlikely eg bittern last w/e at St Ives Cambs. But it is pretty good at spotting things out of sight (nuthatch, tr-creeper -hidey birds!)
