I think that it is a stronger case than the Jan. 6 cases. Facts weren't really in dispute, and there were no immunities for the DA to worry about. The Florida case would have been a slam dunk if Smith filed in DC. Some folks just hate the NY case because it seems like an end-run around FECA.

But, unlike the January 6 case, Trump's role in the crime was less clear. He had a plausible deniability argument. Plus, there was the complexity of the charges being based on uncharged offenses. Of course, the defense made some choices that made a guilty verdict more likely: 1/
