For a lot of us, it's not that our parents were necessarily ashamed of having a child with a learning "disability," it's that "people with learning disabilities are dumb, and my child is a straight A student, so they cannot possibly have ADHD".

We all read well above grade level, so our inability to do homework or assigned reading was because we were "lazy" and "undisciplined". By the time of highschool, our grades started to slip, but that too was just a result of our laziness about homework...
