And to be clear: having intersectional space to center indigenous voices "or whatever" is still a good thing. But can we stop being so self-defeating with the purity culture? Not everything has to solve all problems perfectly.

It means a lot of leftists are so concerned with being "right," and with making sure everyone else is "right" that they're afraid to take any actual, meaningful action. Your conference didn't have enough intersectional spaces to center indigenous voices or whatever. May as well not have put one on.

Yes but any leftist who's doing anything wrong is actually a lib. It's just science; don't question it.

One time Microsoft came to do a presentation, and my boss complained that it'd be just another sales pitch for their cloud services stuff. Apparently that comment made it to the MS team, cause their lead person afterward said "There. Was that more than just a sales pitch?"
Nah. It wasn't really.

I just couldn't take any HB animation that wasn't Mike Mignola. Personal hangup.

But My Vote is sacred, and it needs to feel Special or I'm not voting. How dare you suggest that I vote for someone who doesn't give me the Special Good Feelings.

Got relentlessly bullied on here quite recently for trying to say the same. The "genocide joe" folks are a lot quieter after the SCOTUS ruling, perhaps because they realized they were full of shit.

For what it's worth, I'm sorry about whatever Christians did to hurt you in the past. Me too. Religions are made of people, and people are inconstant, fallible, petty, and stupid.

He came off looking feeble. It doesn't help anything to pretend otherwise. However, he gave clear answers (if you overlook his speech problems). He actually answered questions and wasn't lying all night. That matters to me more than how loud he was. Still have no qualms about voting for him.

I didn't say I was, so let's not be disingenuous, hm?
But if I were to do that, how would you suggest go about that here, on Bluesky dot app, friend?

And turning the other cheek in this context would be allowing snide comments without responding in kind, I suppose?
By all means, unleash your pent up rage about Christianity at me. I've had worse. I'm clearly not about to debate you into anything.

I don't think it's my job to defend everything the church has ever done or said, but as far as remaining in communion with anti-lgbt groups, the alternative is cutting them loose to do whatever. This way they can still exert some limited influence from Canterbury or whatever.

The guy who just asked me to shoot Baptists is concerned about violence. Go for it. I'm all ears.

That's right. We never really had Liz as an option. Why is that? Perhaps we could ask Hillary.

Sorry. I try all new foods with a closed mind. I go into it thinking "if this doesn't taste like chicken nuggets, I'm going to be upset!" It's gratifying to be proven right so often. But I hate most foods, so there is a trade off.

My brother in law told his daughter (6) never to apologize unless she meant it. No fake apologies, great idea! But the reality is that... she just never apologizes for anything and is terrible to be around.

Check out Bill Bryson in A Short History of Nearly Everything. Very good at breaking science down for the lay reader, and making it seem interesting. Like a narrative rather than a series of unlinked events.

"Mars isn't happening on anywhere near the timeline of the problems I'm talking about"
Are you on the "we're all dead in three years" train? Cause that's unrealistic.
"We don't need 'advancements' we need to deploy existing solutions."
We need both. Yesterday. There's no magic silver bullet.

Disagree. I think the rigors of living on Mars will actually help us with our own problems back on earth. Efficient water usage and solar power, for example. We're still benefiting from lots of the advancements they came up with in the Apollo program.
