I don't know why we keep wanting to forgive student debt without solving the root cause in the first place. Predatory loans from unscrupulous lenders and universities.

Guy blocked me after replying. Annoying. In response: No, I actually started behaving this insufferably in response to all the badgering and criticism I was getting. I was quite friendly at first.

The next step is to ferret out which of you is least ideologically pure, and the excoriate them ruthlessly. The next step after that is the same. And so on. Revolution? We never get to that part. We're not pure enough. This is the way.

I had no idea that was a thing still. I don't think he was about to act on this; he was just telling me the "official" answer about eating cow meat. This was right after he ate at a place called Buffalo Burger, thinking it would be bison. When I told him it was beef, he was upset but not overly so.

I had an Indian coworker who said that eating beef was considered worse in Hindu than, and I quote, "taking the life of a virtuous person." He wasn't the most observant Hindu, but he took that one seriously.

Most Americans, if they eat sheep at all, will eat lamb, which is much more tender. Not many people eat mutton. And no, there's no taboo against goat. It's just not commonly found in American grocery stores. You have to find a halal butcher around here if you want it. Which you totally can.

Good news everyone the firefighters in my mentions think if they can douse the fire with water just one more time the rising tide of house fires will be defeated. That's how you sound. Vote Biden this November. No, it won't fix everything. It's still 100% necessary.

Look, the supreme court just made most of this moot, at least for now. Biden is the guy; it's too late to change; we all gotta back Biden in order to stop fascism. I'm just saying, for next time, perhaps we could have someone younger. Perhaps the primary could be less of a pro-forma exercise.

And to be clear: having intersectional space to center indigenous voices "or whatever" is still a good thing. But can we stop being so self-defeating with the purity culture? Not everything has to solve all problems perfectly.

It means a lot of leftists are so concerned with being "right," and with making sure everyone else is "right" that they're afraid to take any actual, meaningful action. Your conference didn't have enough intersectional spaces to center indigenous voices or whatever. May as well not have put one on.

One time Microsoft came to do a presentation, and my boss complained that it'd be just another sales pitch for their cloud services stuff. Apparently that comment made it to the MS team, cause their lead person afterward said "There. Was that more than just a sales pitch?" Nah. It wasn't really.

Got relentlessly bullied on here quite recently for trying to say the same. The "genocide joe" folks are a lot quieter after the SCOTUS ruling, perhaps because they realized they were full of shit.

For what it's worth, I'm sorry about whatever Christians did to hurt you in the past. Me too. Religions are made of people, and people are inconstant, fallible, petty, and stupid.

He came off looking feeble. It doesn't help anything to pretend otherwise. However, he gave clear answers (if you overlook his speech problems). He actually answered questions and wasn't lying all night. That matters to me more than how loud he was. Still have no qualms about voting for him.

And turning the other cheek in this context would be allowing snide comments without responding in kind, I suppose? By all means, unleash your pent up rage about Christianity at me. I've had worse. I'm clearly not about to debate you into anything.

I don't think it's my job to defend everything the church has ever done or said, but as far as remaining in communion with anti-lgbt groups, the alternative is cutting them loose to do whatever. This way they can still exert some limited influence from Canterbury or whatever.

Check out Bill Bryson in A Short History of Nearly Everything. Very good at breaking science down for the lay reader, and making it seem interesting. Like a narrative rather than a series of unlinked events.

"Mars isn't happening on anywhere near the timeline of the problems I'm talking about" Are you on the "we're all dead in three years" train? Cause that's unrealistic. "We don't need 'advancements' we need to deploy existing solutions." We need both. Yesterday. There's no magic silver bullet.

Disagree. I think the rigors of living on Mars will actually help us with our own problems back on earth. Efficient water usage and solar power, for example. We're still benefiting from lots of the advancements they came up with in the Apollo program.
