Context: I’m working a real shit job while I have been studying. Just so I can pay off some debt/pay for school/save for our move. It’s not the worst but can be very draining and sadly one of my coworkers is one of those miserable people who need to make others feel miserable :/

As an example, I recently saw someone clearly not American ask a question about a misogynistic coded phrase and why it shouldn’t be used. Another Caucasian user saw the question and instead of providing an answer, assumed that the question was asked in bad faith and attacked.

Since the latest flood of users from X I feel like the BlueSky space has gotten a bit more volatile and condescending. I especially see that attitude towards POC/non-western folks. It seems that most people react to comments with raised hackles. I hope the atmosphere relaxes again soon.

One of my favorite restaurants is a small hole in the wall Mexican place. They serve Birria tacos with real goat for 4 for $10. A steal where I live. Most chain places sub beef in the place of goat as it can be off putting for Americans in our city.

🙃 Ah, as a first gen American I have definitely felt some experiences with that. Fortunately most of those local businesses would not want to serve bigots anyways. When they do come in it’s almost always a problem because they did not come in with the intention of enjoying a nice meal.

I just wish we put a little more value in the lives of other animals like we do for horses or dogs or cats. This is also why I am invested in the conservation of reptiles and amphibians. Sadly because they lack conventional cuteness, they end up with far less attention and resources
