My new book, To Run the World, is now just $27 on Amazon (US): www.amazon.com/Run-World-Kr..., so a good time to get your hardback copy.

To Run the World entered top ten for Cold War history on amazon.co.uk, still behind several great books but steadily climbing. And hmmm, the book is now just over £21, which is not bad for an 800-page hardcover. Order yours here: www.amazon.co.uk/Run-World-Kr....

Some thoughts on Navalny's death. spectator.co.uk/article/russ.... The key point is this. Yes, Putin killed Navalny. But it's *not* Putin alone. It's the ugly subservience of the silent majority. No one but the Russians themselves are responsible for this sad state of affairs.

Isn't it? There's lots of fun stuff like this in the book. You sort of read it thinking: surely they didn't say *that*?

You'll find tons in the book about Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Gorbachev, but also Mao Zedong, Ho Chi Minh, and Kim Il Sung. Nixon and Kissinger are illuminated from interested angles. Lots on Kennedy too.

I was lucky to have access to a treasure trove of new materials in Moscow and in Beijing. Unfortunately, probably the last person for the foreseeable future to be able to access these materials. Drawing on these I drew some nuanced portraits of key Cold War personalities.

Enjoyed speaking to @kevinrothrock.bsky.social about my new book, "To Run the World". The book, which took 10 years to write, sheds new light on key episodes of the Cold War: the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Yom Kippur War and many more. meduza.io/en/episodes/....

Putin is heading to Beijing for a summit with Xi Jinping (at the BRI summit). Two things I'll be looking for:
1) Power of Siberia 2. Yes? No? If yes, a big deal (POS1 was worth $400 bln). If no, also tells you something. I think "no".
2) Mention of partnership without limits. Yes? No? I think "no".
