After the death of Tyre Nichols, Memphis enacted a policy prohibiting police from conducting pretextual traffic stops. The Republican state legislature and governor just enacted a preemptory law overturning the policy, and prohibiting any city in Tenn. from passing a similar one.
Once again, the source of legitimacy in politics is "the higghest level controlled by Republicans", not whatever platitudinal principles they market as meaning anything.
"Nashville city council passes policy requiring police to stop any car with legislative plates* just to make sure they're ok and check for marijuana odors, working seatbelts, and unsecured firearms and that the car hasn't been stolen."
