The thing about Lenin is, to me he always seemed just as bad as Stalin, just without the opportunity to get to where Stalin did. He pulled a lot of the same authoritarian acts that would later pave the road for Stalin's worst actions and used famine as a political tool against his enemies.

In general it seems like history has mostly forgiven Lenin for a lot of his intentional atrocities because Stalin was noticeably much worse. (And that's of course not to say that a revolution wasn't needed or that the Tsar was good, but Lenin has never seemed like someone worth elevating)
