Most people assume that if you're married to an American citizen, you automatically have legal status. Unfortunately, it's not true. Biden's new executive action for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens will protect half a million marriages from being broken up by the gov't.

As an American man who married a Canadian woman in 2004 I did not assume this. In fact I engaged an attorney and followed the established procedure in place at that time. Happy for those positively impacted by this ruling, but there are lots of people out there like me who followed the rules.
