In hindsight, I guess I should clarify that it is illegal to be a member of a white supremacist group; espousing white supremacist views is disobeying a lawful order (which are UCMJ violations depending on how you squint at it), at least in the USAF.

Also, this includes hate symbols as tattoos (swastika is explicitly forbidden) and flying flags or using white nationalist symbolism in any manner, personal or official (swastika and ‘SS’ lightning bolts are specifically forbidden). Obv, branch, command, local leadership will vary in enforcement.

Similarly, it’s illegal under the UCMJ to be a member of the US Communist Party (NOT DSA), but NOT illegal to espouse the belief that workers should control the means of production. It is illegal to advocate for workers overthrowing the constitutional order, however. Moreover: IANAL, consult ADC, &c
