I do a lot of cooking and baking. I don't use recipes much. Recently one of my children (adult children, but my children) asked for my recipe for sticky buns. I've made these a fair amount and they're well liked. /1

I have a friend like this. I wanted her gumbo recipe, she said she didn't have one. So I watched everything I did and took notes and now I make her gumbo! But you gotta get the person while htey're still alive for this one to work.

My FIL has a few recipes like this that are family faves, so we ended up recording him making the recipe, talking through it, showing techniques, etc, and then made copies for all the kids. Now the grandkids are learning by helping cook every couple weeks.

I had to stop and think about what I do when. The recipe ended up being four pages long with all the possible variations and tips on things like how to get sticky buns out of pans without risking getting molten sugar syrup on the cook or the floor. /2
