...not really relevant to the overall story, but tithing is usually used for church operations, fast offerings are for helping people directly (and not required for temple status like tithing is); that part they didn't quite get right...

...that said, I'm glad this was reported. It raises some interesting questions, and I for one, hope it leads to some changes in how the church invests funds.
