Midwesterner. Skeptical, particularly of "economic anxiety." Trying to stay open-minded but generally, they are who we thought they were.
I was watching yesterday a 20th anniversary showing of the Pistons-Lakers NBA title game; it was the original broadcast.
At one point they cut to the crowd and a picture of Trump with “Hey Lakers, You’re Fired!” popped on the screen. The myth-making apparatus was decades-long and wide-spread.

Not sure I follow. Trump doesn’t want us to go into the future, but the past. Biden doesn’t want us to go back to the craziness of Trump’s term, specifically 2020 & Jan 6, but instead build things like infrastructure. That’s what a lot of his commercials have been about

I mean, that’s not what he said. You know he didn’t say “I’ll be OK” bc that’s why there aren’t quotes around it.

But again, how would "the party" determine that? I have not heard any process put forth beyond truly crazy ideas such as 'let's have a debate a week!' and/or 'throw it to the Convention and yell about it!'
Only way Whitmer runs if if *both* Biden & Harris willingly step aside. That's not happening.

As you said, it's wishcasting.
Whitmer (my guv) is a life-long politician. She is not stupid.
In what world would she attempt to push aside / step over not just the current Prez (who she is vice-chair of his campaign) but *also* the VP (a Black woman) via some cockamamie, undefined, process?

Yeah, and this is what she's getting paid to do.
WaPo has fired numerous reporters and columnists over the past few years and they have specifically kept her. This is what they want; this is on mission.

Is it bad that the two largest papers in NC dont even have this as a story, but do have a blurb about a pound puppy with a frog-like bark and where you can get the best caviar in Charlotte?
I say yes.

Ok, but it’s still not harsh criticism of Roberts, it’s the typical right-wing abusive narrative: he’s not doing this because he wants to, but because you (the left-wing institutions infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome) are making him do this for your, and everyone else’s, good.

Plus, Newsom likes Biden! He doesn't have to do this, especially now!
If Newsom, Beshear etc wanted to run, they could have. No one stopped them, not even the DNC. I'm over focusing on things that didn't happen and wishcasting for candidates that don't exist.

Oh wow. That’s shameful. I mean that literally, I would be ashamed to have my name on it.
It’s like a historian writing about a plan to win the Presidency & focusing on racking up a big margin in California, forgetting that the popular vote is not relevant for how a President actually gets selected

Oh “they” did? Who is “they”? When did “they” do this? Why would a complete narcissist like Newsom listen to them? They’re not in charge of him—he can raise his own money, run his own campaign, get on primary ballots—no one stopped him.

The Senate blocked a Supreme Court replacement with no consequence, and a Justice is arguably more important than a VP, so why are you confident that would lead to a crisis that would lead to anything good?

You see, when you think the DNC is control of everything & pulling all the strings behind the scenes, it naturally flows that they pick the candidates and, if necessary, can remove candidates like they are a Politburo.

What the fuck?
Getting rid of the President of the Senate as a Dem and making it Mike “Banner of Heaven” Johnson is just a “trade off”? That gets you a younger candidate who, at best, will win a close election in which the Senate President certifying the election will be extremely important?
Crazy

I've often thought, in a "It's a Wonderful Life" scenario, that if the NY Times didn't exist, the US (and world) would be better off.
And that's accounting for a lot of great reporting and columns over the years. But their political coverage, war correspondence and editorials can be catastrophic.

The debate was on Thursday; the rally was on Friday (as was another appearance public appearance in NYC).
This kind of tweet is the finest in misinfo: it makes it hard for people to remember these distinctions, so you think Biden hasn't spoken in public since the debate. He has--multiple times!

It certainly walks a line. I guess because the movie is mostly a bunch of Rick Dalton pointing at the TV screen moments, they needed to jam him into scenes with as many famous people as possible.

I've never gotten it. The Black Panther Party scene alone is insane in like 5 different ways! Throughout the film, the music drops are so hacky! But it is compelling because of the performances and it moves---just one scene after another.

Came across Forest Gump on the the hotel TV. I have no idea how this movie was greenlit. I know, tell a 1990s movie exec "I've got Zemeckis directing Hanks" and that's all you need, but the story & this movie is insane. Hanks should still be winning Oscars to this day for making it all somehow work.

He spent NINE HOURS A DAY "tweeting, phoning friends and watching television.
Official meetings, policy briefings and public appearances — typically the daily work of being president — consumed barely more than three hours of his day."

Accuweather and (to a lesser extent Weather . com) have a depressing amount of pop-ups and other pushy content. MSN Weather shows where the rain is and duration much quicker / better.

It should not go unmentioned, that in 2020 the NY Times editorial board, after going through a long-drawn out endorsement process, couldn't even narrow it down to 1 person--they selected TWO!
But now they're demanding Dems override primary voters and select a new candidate by...magic? Vibes? What?

This is a great point, and it's one of the reasons I still check out Twitter (even as the site has continued to degrade in multiple ways).
I saw a few posts, than a few more from large accounts and who were legit angry and it informed me I had not appreciated how poorly Trump's bigotry landed.

His merits as a candidate are that he easily won the primary, which is how we evaluate & select candidates these days.
Now some people want some unelected, unnamed entity to swoop in & select an unspecified replacement via an undefined, undemocratic process. What are the merits of that?

I don't get that at all. There are numerous good or interesting candidates (Beshear, Whitmer, Pritzker, Harris, Newsom) -- just none of them wanted to lose in a primary in 2024 running against an incumbent.
