Scotland uses AMS for Holyrood, STV for councils, and FPTP for Westminster, so it provides a useful benchmark for what the differences between the systems are.
Only FPTP skews towards one party.

I think so. I watched it on the STV player.

I suspect that a lot of the bad reviews are from people who actually haven't watched it (or not watched it all - has episode 3 aired in the UK yet?)

Yes, the thought of Farage actually having to do a day's honest graft beggars belief.

Isn't self-immolation what the UK has put itself through over the last few years? With a PR system it at least allows the mainstream parties to ignore the extreme unless, of course, the lunatics can take over the asylum.

My wife has just suggested that we watch "Independence Day" as it is 4th July.
I mean, why not? Essentially, it is a pale imitation of "Daleks – Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D.", but at least it's date appropriate.

Self ID was proposed by Theresa May when she was Prime Minister. The impetus was due to changes from the WHO, not activists.

Norstat don't specify their client so I am guessing it is a political party. Over the election campaign they have shown Labour steadily dropping, SNP improving, and Conservatives stabilising and then improving.
Most opinion polls are intended to influence rather than inform.

I'm just wondering whether #EURO2024 in Germany will create a new interest in German beer in the UK? In the 1970s. there were all sorts of fake German lagers including Grünhalle (a literal translation of Greenhalls) which proved that the most important ingredient in beer is umlauts.

The cyberman is a stunt performer called Andrew Burford, who I met at a convention recently. Apparently, he got the gig because he was capable of holding Peter Capaldi for the duration of the shot.

Well, England were awful and still fluked their way through. I was quite amused when the German commentator described Southgate's tactics as being "more conservative than the Tories."

I keep seeing this coming up on my timeline. I'm tempted to Google it, but I know from experience that curiosity kills the search history.
Apparently, the guy on the end looks like David Tennant, but I am convinced that I once had a date with the gamma guy.

Thanks for pointing this out. I thought Billy had lost the plot for a moment.
It's ironic that the blue tick, which was the only useful feature on Twitter, is now being used for the literal opposite of its intended function.

"Goodies Rule OK" is brilliant. I showed this to the kids a while back and didn't think they would get the cultural references, but they loved it. It's definitely worth a rewatch.
Possibly have the Monty Python "Election Night Special" as well?

David Tennant, in his usual jovial manner, called out the bigoted UK equalities minister. That now makes him a very bad man.
It's not just fandoms, it's modern society in general. Everyone is either the Messiah or Satan himself. There is no subtly or context.

When did the UK start referring to a "landslide majority" as a "supermajority"?
A supermajority isn't even a thing in the UK since they scrapped the fixed term parliament act.

I once saw ball-lightning in Wales when I was around 7 or 8 years old. I told this to the farmer whose cottage we were staying in and he just said, "There's no such thing as ball-lightning. You probably just saw a dragon."

I'd actually like it if one of them pointed out that Tennant was making a point about not tolerating intolerance. They could quote Karl Popper as well.
I really do have unrealistic expectations for the quality of political discourse, don't I?

That is fascinating. I've already voted so it doesn't really make any difference to me but I would be interested to see how the actual results compare to the predictions.
I've always considered that opinion polls are meant to influence the public, not inform them.

I was at a Doctor Who fan convention a few weeks ago and everybody seemed to be loving the new series. The only people who seem to slag it off either don't watch it or only air their views online. I'm sure that there is a Venn diagram somewhere there.

He seems a rather odd target for a political hatchet job. He's hugely popular and generally loved (I don't think the has yet qualified as "national treasure" but that is usually reserved for those that that they can't give an OBE to because they would say something rude to the King.)

It felt like a typical RTD season finale to me. TBH, the only one of his that I felt satisfied with was Doomsday.
I do need to rewatch it anyway. Something was up with the sound on Disney+ and I struggled to hear a lot of the dialogue.

I don't rank them. If I go back and rewatch series I find that my views have changed. There are one or two that I could happily watch on loop and a few that I would rather never see again, but those are a very small minority.

I just looked at their manifesto. They mention gender on pages 91 and 99. Banning conversion therapy is good but the rest seems to be at odds with WHO advice. Mustn't frighten the tabloids, I suppose.

One thing bothering me about #DoctorWho. How did the Doctor manage to move Sutekh with a dog lead if he is all powerful.
I can't even move a whippet like that if he is examining a really bad smell.

Realistically, the episode count isn't that different to what it has been since around 2008. They were doing a series of 12/13 episodes every 18 months plus a Christmas special. Now it's 8 episodes every 12 months plus the specials: 27 episodes every 3 years rather than 27-29.

You would think that after 55 years, #DoctorWho UNIT squaddies would have learnt that assault rifles are useless against monsters.
For once, they should have an episode where the bullets obliterate the baddie and everyone feels bad about it.

I seem to recall that, at the time, pretty much anyone who had ever employed, worked for, or even had the slightest dealings with Johnson said that Corbyn was the better choice.
And I don't think they intended that as an endorsement of Corbyn or his policies.
