And it does show the upper officers to be a bunch of assholes, iirc. It is a very well crafted movie and the practical fx has aged very well. It's also funny that best selling pop artist Herbert Grönemeyer is in it. Hes good though. Didn't know there was a 2018 TV series. I have my doubts.

You could argue that it's a bit dicey because it's from the perspective of German soldiers, but Das Boot is one helluva submarine movie. Truly a living nightmare to be a ww2 submariner. If you decide to watch it I would strongly suggest the Director's Cut.
