I've sadly noticed that (even here in Italy) as long as a book takes places in the south of Italy around the 50s and it could as well have orcs and take place in Narnia. Apparently nobody seems to realise it's about real places and feelings and just basks in the esoticism it seems to evoke

interesting! especially considering the book in question is specifically about poverty and fascism … hardly “exotic” topics, and yet somehow because it’s in Italy? 🤷🏻‍♀️
