my standard critiques of the series remain intact - dour, dark, not a hint of camp - but man, they do look good, with a level of basic visual craft that seems to elude a lot of similar kinds of projects in 2024 … a solid movie, worth the price of the ticket even with my caveats

if I have to sit through this trailer for the “Joker” sequel one more time … I’m going to, huh, do something desperate, I’m searching for a metaphor for that specific brand of anomie … it’s on the tip of my tongue …

most people’s clothes looked dirty and worn, the character actors had bad teeth prosthetics, lots of pull tab beer cans … I couldn’t catch any obvious anachronisms but you might have higher standards 😂

honestly it’s not dissimilar in premise, but this is also based on a photo book from the time … but yeah, a *bit* of homoeroticism, no doubt.

still: my new life plan of being a Monday evening movie-goer is working out - I pay more, yes, but I can sleep in and the theater is mostly empty.
paying a premium for a mostly-empty theater? that’s a price I’ll pay.

I don’t really care for these Nu-Monkey movies but I wanted to see another movie and nothing else I wanted to see was starting for another hour … and so far I’m the only person in the theater! living the dream, friends.
ahhh, shit, a couple kids just walked in. 🙊

this was great! was there buzz about this that I missed? because it was great and I haven’t heard anyone talking about it.
honestly, the kind of movie my mother would have loved, and I miss being able to ask her about what they (inevitably) got wrong with the period details …

just the other day - two weeks or so - special election, Ohio 6th - a nothing replacement election in a solid red district, the Dem still shaved *twenty points* off a reliably thirty point GOP district … small bellwether, perhaps, but every weather vane has been pointing that way for months

the actual on-the-ground GOP organization has been decimated in state after state, their actual platform and actual performance are dog-shit unpopular - same actual material fundamentals that have seen them underperform for multiple cycles, and every special election, are still very much in effect

It's my birthday! I am seven, which is a very good age to be.
I would like the celebrations to begin now (3:30 am), but everyone else is still asleep. I suppose I must stay in bed and now go loudly play my records until much later. Like 4:15 am.

what an absolutely bonkers win for modern medicine - my dad also had Hep C, and when they decided to treat it almost 20 years ago he had to undergo a year-long course of weekly chemotherapy injections that absolutely ruined his health (except it did get rid of the virus) … miracles & wonders!
