If I have knowledge of it, what they're like as a co-worker on projects (and thus will be like as a colleague). Like, I once wrote a letter for someone who I co edited with, and I could say with authority, "here's what I experienced working with them day to day on a long unruly thing"

an explanation of what the candidate does, and it's broader significance outside their discipline, in terms someone in nonrelated fields can appreciate, including the places they have taught/published/conferenced
