Is it just me or was there not this massive insertion of $$ & “campaign donations “ in elections 25 yrs ago? I don’t donate to campaigns. I never understood why my money was “needed” for someone to run for office. What is it used for?

Mostly advertising. I don't donate to campaigns anymore. It just feels ridiculous to think that my paltry contribution could make the slightest difference. I know that this is one of *those* problems; e.g., like the arguments about whether one's vote matters. For whatever reason, I always vote.
