Waka jumping is not the same as crossing the floor to vote against ‘your’ party on a single issue. This is an option that is open to all members, although it is rare and has implications for your career - as a rule.

As a rule, most votes are ‘whipped’ ie. your party decides your vote. You can decide to vote against the whip and with another party, or ‘cross the floor’ for a whipped vote. It’s career limiting, often. Conscience votes are different, MPs may genuinely vote as they please for those.
