Meaning New Zealand National Party flushed value for money down the loo and now will give us a product half the size for double the price which seems to be National and the Kiwi Way. So much for economic literacy from the Party of Business.

Sweetcorn with coconut milk and a smidge of green curry paste.
Fry an onion, fry off paste, add sweetcorn (fresh or frozen) and coconut milk - some water or stock. Peasy.

Kids who did NOT volunteer to be there, 💯 don’t want to be there and who have far more complex needs. Disaster for everyone.
What WAS working and had massive success in reducing recidivism was addressing those kids needs, and those of their whānau.

In ‘things that bring me joy’ today I’m sharing the FB page of Prof Rangi Matamua. It’s funny, wise, packed with information about Matariki and te ao Māori but above all carries a strong sense of connection.
Love it!

This is good news. Now let’s see some results.
Ginny’s Members bill could be before the house immediately with 61 non-exec MP’s support, but no. The Nats want their OWN bill, not hers. Which they haven’t written yet.
But yeah. Good news overall!

We (last government) did introduce a women’s health strategy, which (if we keep it, and the current Minister for Women is totally silent on this) was a huge step forward in addressing the huge inequities in women’s health.
I suggest emailing the current Minister. Which may still be Upston?

I think we all need to pray to whichever deity most appeals that this doesn’t happen.
There’s not one person in the entire National party caucus I’d trust to lead us even vaguely competently through the smallest of disasters.

Breakfast conversation.
Me - why is CELERY highlighted in bold on the marmite? Are people allergic to celery?
The Beloved - yes. They’re celeriac <falls about laughing at his own wit>
He’s so proud of himself. It’s genuinely adorable 🥰

Interesting.
I wouldn’t describe a dearth of places for our new grad nurses, caused by the curiously under-reported frontline hiring freeze and under emphasised budget cuts, as “a good problem to have”.
I may call this framing ‘gaslighting’, however.

I’m old enough to remember how unimportant they* thought rubbish collectors were. Until the day after said rubbish collectors downed tools…and the piles of filth began.
Then the rats came.

I don’t want nurses to be rescheduling appointments, police officers to be typing up interviews … the idea that admin staff are ‘waste’ is so wrong headed.

It is NOT POSSIBLE to cut budgets and not affect frontline workers.
And yes. It’s exactly as you say. All this for tax cuts for the already wealthy.

Ōtautahi peeps!
Coffee catch up is on - at C1 Espresso on Tuesday 25th at 3pm.
Personally happy to talk to anyone about ‘what you can do and how to engage with our reps’ but the actual convo is up to you!

It is, and it is.
But frankly every funding cut to an agency working on an already over tight budget will impact frontline services - let’s not pretend there’s a bunch of folk doing nothing in a back office we can safely sack with no impact.
