I was about to force @megamanchego.bsky.social into a trip to the forest preserves today to finally see some Brood XIII cicadas, but!! then I found one in the community garden I volunteer at this morning! He was so cute and small, much smaller (but more fashionable) than the annual cicadas we see.

Parts of Chicago are getting double whammied. XIII and XIX broods up there. Downstate we just have XIII and I'm about done. 😂

apparently the Chicago suburbs (and forest preserves) are swimming in them, but this is the first/only one I've seen in the city so far.
