Apparently we're in pursuit of unifying those two paths into one path again, a so called "Grand Unified Theory". One problem. By this comic's conclusions (and by how difficult it seems to do this IRL), the truth is something like this: "Complex interactions between non-simple particles is the norm."

Now that we have a better understanding of the fact that Data has entropy just like thermodynamics, I think we can already draw a conclusion that simulation of a given volume of space will always take more mass, energy, and volume than the volume of space thus simulated, for any scale of simulation.
