Since there's so many more non-white non-hets, etc. The problem is that because there's so many more possible constituents, the Party can be picky. It can choose to serve some fraction of it's possible constituency and ignore others and still retain rough comparability with the GOP.

And they know this, they're constantly concerned with different identity boxes to manage their constituencies. Which they do very carefully with the intention of manicuring a collection of constituencies that have the least possible demands on them.
