Many such cases. I'm always going to be partial to the original for opening up so much completely untrod territory but an argument can be made that GoT walked (sprawled) so that HotD could run (adapt one section of a novella).

I'm not sure what the difference is, the fact that it's a bunch of actors I enjoy watching, or that the show runners are doing a better job, or even just the quality of the cinematography and direction - maybe it's knowing that Matt Smith is as close to a live-action Elric as we're ever gonna get.
