When we judge ourselves or think of what kind of men we'd want to be like, being strong and muscular is generally more desirable than being pretty, then we project that idea of what we find desirous onto women and assume women prefer strong, muscular men too

If I had to guess, most guys are legitimately completely unaware of what women actually find attractive, so we tend to default to our own ideas of what men ought to be
